Heather Vanderkam
I am a Registered Social Worker, holding a Bachelors of Social Work from the University of Western Ontario (2011). I am honoured to continue my learning journey while pursuing my Masters of Social Work degree through the University of Windsor (expected completion December 2024).
Through my Masters education, I am grateful to be able to complete my internship at Dr. Amanda Bell and Associates Office. During this time, I am excited to partake in the fall EMDR training, and I look forward to further developing my clinical skills with adults and children, as well as refining my use of therapeutic interventions and treatments. I recognize the privilege it is to be able to learn from experts in the field of child and family therapy here at Dr. Amanda Bell and Associates, and equally, to be able to learn from my clients unique lived experiences and journeys towards holistic healing and wellness.
During my time on placement at Dr. Amanda Bell and Associates, I intend to build upon my years of experience in the child welfare sector and as an adult and perinatal mental health counsellor. In addition to my Social Work experience, I am also a Certified Yoga Instructor (CYT-200), and a Certified Forest Therapy Guide. I strive to integrate the use of traditional therapeutic interventions such as CBT, DBT and narrative therapy approaches, combined with influences from other holistic modalities during my time with clients.
I am a lifelong learner, who believes wholeheartedly in the body and minds innate capacity to heal, and I look forward to broadening my resources and skills to further support the individuals I have the honour of working alongside.
